Tip wrap a layer of package tape where the belt runs not over the lower pulley but along the path of the belt, it helps prevent coal bits from jamming in there. Once you have replaced the belt and have reassembled the unit NEVER use anything other than Lionel 206 Coal or its latest incarnation.
